Murderthon Controls Guide

Keyboard, controller, communication wheel, and movement tech in one place.

Murderthon Controls

Clean inputs win Murderthon trials. The game is a 4v1 asymmetrical horror title where a half-second late vault or a missed ability bind turns a healthy chase into a chair. This page documents the official PC and controller layout, explains the communication wheel and mouse unlock, and covers the movement tech—vault tiers, vent slides, crouch scrubbing—that those binds enable. Use it as a reference beside getting started and the looping guide.

Murderthon is still an alpha from Chilly Creations, so expect occasional rebinds or UI moves after patches. If a menu label drifts, the actions below stay the same even if the icon shifts.

Role context for each bind

Sprint — Left Shift / L1

Sprint is your speed button and your information leak. Survivors leave scratch marks while sprinting; Masks read those marks like breadcrumbs. Sprint when:

  • You are in an active chase and need vault speed tiers.
  • You must beat a kick timer or reach a save.
  • You are Mask and closing distance without a stealth window.

Walk or crouch between quiet generators. Holding sprint from spawn to first gen is the most common beginner tell.

Crouch — Left Ctrl / left stick

Crouch reduces presence, helps scrub chase info after line-of-sight breaks, and lets you hold tight corners for mind games. After a vent exit, crouch for a few steps if the Mask did not follow immediately. Masks crouch less often but can use it to quiet approach angles before an M1.

Attack — M1 / R1

Survivors rarely attack; this is primarily the Mask basic attack that drives the two-hit down system (healthy → injured → downed). Timing matters around pallets: swing too early and you eat a stun; swing too late and the survivor vaults free. Practice the lunge range in empty lobbies if your ping fluctuates.

Some Mask kits swap or dual-wield modes (for example Jammed baton versus cuffs). Attack still confirms the health-state damage when you are on the weapon mode.

Ability — M2 / R2

Ability fires your class gadget as survivor or your Mask power as killer. Examples:

  • Medic medkit heals
  • Handyman hammer repairs
  • Saboteur chair sabotage
  • Recon pings
  • Enforcer blind
  • Mechanic toolbox repairs
  • Cloaker Stealth-Ploy
  • Fate traps, Ripe spit, Sin rush, Pierce teleport, Sheol cards, Jammed cuffs, Divide vent tools, Lens info tools

Hold versus tap depends on the kit—Fate places traps on hold, Sheol throws cards on press, Medic channels heal on hold. Read the kit tooltip in lobby before your first game with a new unlock. Full kit writeups live under classes and masks.

Certain Masks use a secondary swap key (commonly Q on PC) to flip ability modes—Divide Isolate versus Lingering is the classic example. Put that swap on a comfortable keycap; hunting for Q mid-chase loses vents.

Communication wheel — MMB / D-Pad Up

Murderthon plays best with callouts. The wheel lets you ping without typing:

  • Mask spotted / direction hints
  • Need heal
  • Heading to save / chair
  • Danger / stay away

Use it the moment you see the Mask leave a gen, when you go down, and when you commit to an unhook. Solo-queue teams that never ping lose to coordinated duos even with better loops. On controller, D-Pad Up should be reachable without losing camera—muscle-memory it in the first tutorial.

Unlock mouse — Y

Unlock Mouse frees the cursor for UI: codes redemption, talent menus, emote or shop panels, and precise inventory clicks. Lock it again before a trial starts so your first camera flick is not a menu hover. On hybrid input setups (controller with mouse menus), Y prevents the frustration of a stuck camera when a prompt appears mid-match.

Movement tech tied to the binds

Vault speed tiers

Near a dropped pallet window or vaultable props, press the vault interact (commonly Space on PC while approaching). Speed depends on sprint state and approach angle:

  • Walking or shallow angle → slow vault (Mask free hit magnet).
  • Sprinting into a solid angle → fast vault.
  • Keep Left Shift held through the animation; releasing early often downgrades the tier.

Vent speed and slides

Vents use the same interact logic with their own speed bands:

  • Slow vent when you dab the entrance.
  • Medium vent on standard sprint entries.
  • Fast vent / slide on the aggressive sprint angle—this is the distance creator that defines Murderthon chases.

Practice slide entries in custom movement until you can hit them without looking at your fingers. Against Divide, remember slides are optional—see looping for denial answers.

Camera discipline

PC players should keep sensitivity high enough to check behind during loops without over-flicking into walls. Controller players benefit from a short ADS-style dampening if the game offers look deadzones—test in lobby. Unlock Mouse (Y) is not a substitute for good sensitivity; it is a UI tool.

Survivor versus Mask input priorities

Survivor priority stack in chase: camera → sprint hold → vault/vent interact → delayed pallet drop → ability if it creates distance (Cloaker, Enforcer). Healing abilities mid-chase are usually wrong.

Mask priority stack in chase: camera cutoffs → ability commit when the line is guaranteed → M1 → break pallet only when the stun risk is priced in. Fumbling M2 and M1 on the wrong frames is how Sin whiffs into a stun.

Accessibility and comfort tips

  • Remap crouch if Left Ctrl strains your hand; many players prefer C or a mouse side button when the game allows custom binds through Roblox or in-game settings.
  • Toggle versus hold sprint is a preference—use whichever keeps scratch-mark discipline easier for you.
  • On laptop trackpads, do not queue ranked-feeling lobbies until you have a mouse; M1/M2 timing suffers.
  • Keep the tools page bookmarked for any future sensitivity helpers or overlay notes the wiki adds.

Common control mistakes

  1. Sprint-holding across the whole map as survivor.
  2. Forgetting Unlock Mouse and fighting the UI for thirty seconds while the lobby starts.
  3. Never touching the comm wheel in solo queue.
  4. Releasing sprint a step before the vault and eating a slow animation.
  5. Binding ability to an unreachable controller face button and whiffing clutch Cloaker or Sin inputs.
  6. Ignoring Q-mode swaps on dual-ability Masks.

Practice checklist

  • Five minutes in an empty trial: hit twenty fast vaults without releasing sprint.
  • Five minutes: vent slide, crouch scrub, re-sprint to next tile.
  • Five minutes as Mask: M1 only chases, then M2 integration on your main.
  • One full match where you ping every Mask sighting on the wheel.

Once binds feel invisible, return to getting started for macro goals, then drill looping so those vaults actually burn time. Mask mains should continue into the killer guide. For loadout planning after controls are solved, use the tier list and roster hubs.

Master the table, then forget it. The goal is not to stare at keybinds mid-chase—it is to make sprint, crouch, vault, ability, and pings as automatic as walking so your brain only tracks the Mask, the gens, and the next tile.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Murderthon survivors and Masks.

What are the default Murderthon PC controls?

Sprint on Left Shift, crouch on Left Ctrl, attack on M1, ability on M2, communication wheel on middle mouse, and unlock mouse on Y. Vault and vent interactions use the approach interact key, commonly Space.

What are the controller binds?

Sprint on L1, crouch on the left stick crouch control, attack on R1, ability on R2, communication wheel on D-Pad Up, and unlock mouse on Y. Confirm in the in-game settings after each alpha patch.

What does Unlock Mouse do?

Y frees the cursor for menus such as codes, talents, and shop UI. Lock the mouse again before the trial begins so camera control returns immediately.

Why do my vaults feel slow?

Vault and vent speed depend on sprinting and approach angle. Walking entries or shallow angles produce slow animations. Hold sprint and commit to a strong angle for fast vaults and vent slides.

Should I use the communication wheel every match?

Yes. Ping Mask sightings, heal requests, and save intents. Solo-queue teams without wheel callouts lose tempo even when individual loops are strong.
